Lake County Open House Extravaganza provides opportunities for buyers and sellers

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Association Realtors announced they will be holding an Open House Extravaganza on Sunday, June 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Nearly 60 homes will be available viewing throughout the county.

Purchasing a home is often one of the most important decisions in a person’s life and deciding on a particular house comes with many options.

Forty-five percent of recent buyers used open houses as a way to narrow down their choices and find their dream home.

“Realtors will open the doors to an assortment of homes in the local area that are taking part in this year’s Open House Extravaganza,” said Mary Benson, 2019 president of the Lake County Association of Realtors. “This event is a great way for buyers to get an idea of what they can afford and what kinds of homes are available in the local market. It’s also a chance for sellers to market their home and attract potential buyers.”

Realtors and affiliate members will be available at open houses to answer questions about the home buying process and local market conditions. Homes will be available in many of the County’s diversified neighborhoods.

The event is an excellent opportunity for both in-county residents and out-of-county buyers. In-county residents who are first time home buyers or looking to upsize or downsize their current residence will have the ability to view multiple homes at their leisure.

Out-of-county buyers will find Lake County home prices affordable and attractive be it as a second home or a new residence.

“Buyers need to have a clear idea of what features are important to them and know where they are willing to compromise;” said Benson. “That is where visiting open houses can be helpful. Also, working with a Realtor can be a real asset. Realtors visit hundreds of homes with buyers each year, and have a unique understanding of what buyers value in their local markets. Their expertise and knowledge can help you achieve the dream of homeownership.”

Consumers can go to www.lakecountyopenhouses.com to view a list of open houses that will be available and download maps to help them plan their open house viewings.

The Lake County Association of Realtors helps Realtors to improve the consumer experience.

Established in 1947 the Association provides services to Realtors throughout Lake County.

CDFW to hold public hearing on proposed dungeness crab trap gear retrieval program

Details
Written by: California Department of Fish and Wildlife
Published: 20 June 2019
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is developing regulations to implement a retrieval program for lost or abandoned commercial Dungeness crab gear.

A public hearing will be held at 10 a.m. June 25, at the CDFW Monterey Office at 20 Lower Ragsdale Drive, Monterey.

At the initial public hearing in Santa Rosa on April 2, CDFW proposed modifications to the program.

A supplemental public comment period began May 10 and will run through June 24.

Under existing law (Fish and Game Code Section 8276(d)), all commercial Dungeness crab traps must be removed from the water by 11:59 p.m. on the last day of the commercial Dungeness crab season.

Under the proposed program, qualified entities (retrieval permittees) and their designated agents can retrieve lost or abandoned commercial Dungeness crab gear remaining in the water after the close of the season.

Retrieval permittees must contact the Dungeness crab vessel permitholder and offer to return the gear in exchange for reasonable compensation. If reasonable compensation is not provided, CDFW will reimburse the Retrieval Permittee and levy fees against the vessel permitholder.

The program is expected to reduce the amount of lost or abandoned commercial trap gear in ocean waters, which pose entanglement risk to marine life and navigational hazards to other boaters.

Interested individuals are encouraged to review the proposed regulations and to submit written comments prior to the close of the supplemental public comment period (5 p.m. on June 24) or give oral comments at the public hearing on June 25.

Controller Yee supports Vatican Climate Action Statement

On June 13 and 14, the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and the University of Notre Dame hosted their second Dialogue at the Pontifical Academy of the Sciences on “The Energy Transition and Care for Our Common Home.”

California State Controller Betty T. Yee, a member of the CalPERS, CalSTRS and Ceres boards, was invited to participate in the Vatican Dialogue as a member of a group of policy, civil society, finance, academic, and legal experts along with executives from the world’s leading oil and gas producers and global investors.

Participants signed statements on the importance of carbon pricing toward the reduction of emissions, and the necessity for disclosures to provide clear information on strategies and actions regarding climate change.

“Climate change does not recognize human-drawn borders, and neither should our international response,” said Controller Yee. “At the urging of His Holiness Pope Francis who has declared a climate emergency, it is encouraging to see oil and gas company CEOs, investors and climate experts agree that the pressing transition to a low-carbon global economy depends on more robust climate-related disclosure and carbon pricing policies while advancing human and economic prosperity.”

As the chief fiscal officer of California, Controller Yee is responsible for accountability and disbursement of the state’s financial resources.
