North Shore Business Association meets Feb. 20

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – The North Shore Business Association will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

The group meets for breakfast at 7 a.m. at Judy's Junction, 375 Highway 20, Upper Lake, with the meeting running from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

This month's speaker is Christopher Taliaferro from the Employment Development Department.

Taliaferro is the veterans outreach coordinator, in charge of job placement for returning soldiers. He facilitates their needs and skills assessments and also conducts outreach to businesses to help place vets in jobs.

NSBA members have been busy this new year with art shows, fundraisers and great music. They are looking for members to chair different activities during the year to showcase local businesses.

Middletown Area Merchants Association plans meeting, mixer Feb. 19

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – The Middletown Area Merchants Association (MAMA) will hold its monthly meeting and mixer on Tuesday, Feb. 19.

The meeting will be held at 8 a.m. Please note, this month's meeting location has been changed to the Middletown Senior Center in the New Middletown Community Center on Calistoga Street.

This month's mixer will be a joint meeting with the Middletown Area Town Hall (MATH).  

The mixer will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be sponsored by AAA. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and the featured speaker will be County Supervisor Jim Comstock, who will present his quarterly update.

This is an important meeting designed to get acquainted and explore the common interests of the MAMA and MATH Groups. The mixer will also be held at the new Middletown Senior Center.

MAMA members, don't forget to bring a door prize and have the opportunity to talk about your business.

As always, all meetings and mixers are open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to attend this important meeting.

Go-Biz to lead broad response to president’s initiative on advanced manufacturing institutes

SACRAMENTO – The Governor’s Office for Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) will hold an advanced Manufacturing Summit at the Capitol on Wednesday, March 27.

The summit will be led by Gov. Jerry Brown’s Senior Jobs Advisor Mike Rossi and will convene key stakeholders from education, industry, research and the state’s iHub innovation network.

The summit is a response to President Obama’s state of the union call for an expansion of the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI) with the opening of new Institutes of Manufacturing (IMI).  

This summit will be a coordination of stakeholders to craft California’s proposal to compete for new manufacturing institutes.

“As the No. 1 state for manufacturing jobs and output in the nation, California will lead the next generation of advanced manufacturing in America,” said Mike Rossi, senior jobs advisor to Governor Brown. “We heard the president’s call and California will respond.”
