LAKEPORT, Calif. – A favorite time of the season arrives this Saturday at Leonardis Organics in Lakeport.

Jim Leonardis' annual U-Pick is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at 1010 Argonaut Road, Lakeport.

Most products will be sold for $1 per pound, which is an astounding deal for vine-ripened organic produce.

The vegetable fare is comprised of all organic produce including heirloom and hybrid tomatoes, summer squashes such as Cocozelle and a local favorite, Round de Nice, plus the traditional green zucchini.

A variety of sweet peppers including purple, white, green, red and yellow, plus the candy-sweet Red Nardellos and Red Pimiento peppers will be available.

Leonardis also features multiple variations of heirloom cucumbers, including Satsuki Midori, Striped Armenians, Suyo Long and Lemon. Pickers can also find purple and green tomatillos, basil, parsley and some winter squash.

In the delightful fall weather, this event is a real boon for those that can, freeze, pickle, dry or otherwise store summer abundance for winter.

U-pickers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and a hat, bring bags or boxes, clippers and a smile.
