Eco-documentary ‘Chasing Coral’ screens at Soper Reese on May 18

LAKEPORT, Calif. – A new film series dubbed Green Movie Night debuts at the Soper Reese Theatre on May 18 with a showing of the 2017 eco-documentary, “Chasing Coral.”

The movie screens at 6:30 p.m. with discussion following. Entry is by donation.

Green Movie Night is presented by the Unitarian Universalist Community of Lake County, the Lake Group of the Sierra Club and the Soper Reese Theatre.

“Chasing Coral” offers a breathtakingly beautiful look at some of the Earth's most incredible natural wonders while delivering a sobering warning about their uncertain future.

The case is made less through argument than by using cinema’s most basic tool: visual proof.

Put together by a team of scientists and filmmakers who must overcome technical malfunctions and the force of nature, this award winning movie presents the story of the underwater world with powerful photography, nail-biting suspense and startling emotion.

The film is directed by Jeff Orlowski and produced by Larissa Rhodes, as an Exposure Labs production. It was filmed over three years, with 500-plus hours underwater, and includes footage from more than 30 countries, and was made with the support of over 500 people around the world. Run time is 1 hour and 31 minutes.

The Soper Reese Theatre is located at 275 S. Main St. in Lakeport. For more information call 707-263-0577 or go to http://www.soperreesetheatre.com .
