MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – This Saturday, April 28, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Middletown Art Center, “Printmaking Resilience” offers drypoint etching with local artist and instructor Nicholas Hay.

Drypoint etching is an intaglio technique usually used in preparing metal plates for printmaking where lines are scratched directly into the plate.

“During this class, we will be using contemporary, affordable materials instead,” said Hay. “We’ll use a drypoint technique to draw on a plastic plate upon which participants will be able to make changes and refinements to their image and then run their plate through the press several times during class.”

This class is one of two final Printmaking Resilience classes.

The last one will be Sunday, May 20, as the project draws to a close.

Photography is scheduled for May 5, which will surely be a beautiful day for photographing nature and Lake County’s beautiful wild flowers.

As part of Painting Resilience, an encaustic collage workshop is offered on Sunday, May 6, with guest artist Laura Kennedy.

May 12 features Writing Resilience with Clive Matson and Casey Carney, and the final painting class will be Intuitive Painting with Sage Abella on May 19.

All classes run noon to 5 p.m. and are just $5. Be sure to catch one or several these last few classes! Visit www.middletownartcenter.org/resilience for details and to pre-register as space is limited.

Resilience classes are appropriate for adults and children ages 12 and up, whether new to art making or professionals.

The year-long Resilience Project culminates with exhibitions in multiple locations throughout the county, and a chapbook of writing and images created during the project.

Come join the folks at MAC for classes and events this weekend and throughout the year. Registration for MAC’s Adventures in Art and Storytelling summer camp, an extravaganza of visual and performing arts for children kindergarten through ninth grade also has begun.

Visit www.MiddletownArtCenter.org to learn more or to become a MAC member and be a part of sustaining and growing the arts and culture in Lake County.
