MENDOCINO, Calif. – The world famous Alexander String Quartet will perform on the Fort Bragg Center for the Arts Concert Series on Sunday, April 15, at 3 p.m. in Preston Hall, Mendocino.
The quartet was formed in New York City in 1981 and four years later captured international attention as the first American quartet to win the London International String Quartet Competition.
The quartet performed in the major music capitals of five continents and became known as one of the world’s premier ensembles.
The group has recorded extensively and their recording of Bartok and Shostakovich and Beethoven cycles have won international critical acclaim. Their complete Beethoven cycle released in 2009 was described as “uncompromising in power, intensity and spiritual depth” (Music Web International).
The San Francisco Chronicle called the Alexander, “terrific of tone, virtuosity, and balance. The level of communicative virtuosity places the Alexander Quartet right up there with the best on today’s international scene.”
Advance tickets are available at Harvest Market, Fort Bragg, or Out of this World, Mendocino for $22. Tickets are also available at the door for $25.
With this special event, the Fort Bragg Center for the Arts celebrates the end of the 2017-18 concert season, as well as the final concert to be produced by the organization.
Fort Bragg Center for the Arts is merging with the Opus Concert Series under the umbrella of the Symphony of the Redwoods.
Talented Eva von Bahr, director of the Opus Series, will carry on the work of FBCA in producing classical chamber concerts of the highest professional quality.
