LAKEPORT, Calif. – The 1933 comedy/drama classic, “Dinner at Eight” starring Jean Harlow, Wallace Beery and John Barrymore, screens at the Soper Reese Theatre on Tuesday, April 10, at 1 and 6 p.m.
Entry to the film is by donation.
A high society dinner party, properly suited up with tuxedos, gowns and jewels, can't hide the fact that the guests have been hit harder by the Depression than meets the eye.
Herman J. Mankiewicz‘s tightly written script is full of wisecracks, edgy quips, and secret plots and liaisons, with consummate acting delivered by the best stars in MGM’s stable.
The film is famous for Harlow's Art Deco styled all-white bedroom and her white satin evening dress, bare in the back, that became a fashion rage, known simply as the "Jean Harlow dress."
The movie is sponsored by H&R Block, Lakeport. Not rated. Run time is 1 hour and 53 minutes.
The Soper Reese Theatre is located at 275 S. Main St., Lakeport, 707-263-0577, www.soperreesetheatre.com.
