LAKEPORT, Calif. – If you loved singing and dancing to the Motown sounds of the 1970s with a 1980s and 1990s flair, then you’ll love “Motown Comes To Our Town,” a benefit concert for KPFZ, 88.1 FM, Lake County’s only community radio.

Dress up in your favorite Motown attire and join the fun on Saturday, March 10, at 7 p.m. at the Soper Reese Theater in Lakeport.

Known as a style of soul music with a pop influence, the Motown sound lives in our little part of the universe thanks to local favorites “The Funky Dozen.”

The Funky Dozen blends Motown fun and funk to keep people on the dance floor – all night long.

Led by Larry Thompson, the band focuses primarily on favorites from the 1970s, but also pulls the best from the 1980s, 1990s and latest hits to provide high-energy music that makes people want to move.

Inspired by Motown greats like Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, Aretha Franklin, KC and the Sunshine Band, Sly and the Family Stone, James Brown, the Isley Brothers, and Patty Labelle, The Funky Dozen musicians also find inspiration for their danceable tunes from the more contemporary music of Bruno Mars, Meghan Trainor and others.

The Funky Dozen promises a night of fabulous music and dancing to Motown hits like Papa Was A Rollin Stone, My Girl, and Signed Sealed Delivered I’m Yours as well as funk and uptown funk hits like, Play that Funky Music, Billie Jean, Love Shack, California Gurls, Rock Your Body and 24 Magic.

The band features twelve talented musicians who create a powerful sound melding classic rock guitar, keys and percussion with a horn section to blow the roof off, topped with male and female vocalists who use their voices as instruments in their own right.

Band members include Kristin Petersen, Mary Swehla, Cynthia Ganoug Gouig and Steven Pulido on vocals; Larry Thompson, guitar; Derek Soderquist, bass; Kimberly Thomas, keyboards; Jon Thomas, drum kit and percussion; Gary Miller, trumpet; Sunny Cordell, tenor sax; and Nick Biondo on baritone sax.

This is a benefit concert for KPFZ, 88.1 FM. Tickets are $20 for non-members; members get a $2 discount.

Tickets are available online at www.soperreesetheatre.com, at the box office on Fridays and also at the door on Saturday at 275 S. Main Street in Lakeport.

On weekdays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. tickets are available at the Travel Center, 1265 S. Main Street, Lakeport.
