Spring fire benefit concerts scheduled

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – In partnership with The Time Bank of Thrive Lake County and other community volunteers, Spotlight On Productions has planned two benefits this spring for Lake County fire relief.

On Friday, April 27, from 7 to 10 p.m., the Spring Sulphur Fire Benefit will be held at the Soper Reese Theatre at 275 S. Main St in Lakeport.

Filling the stage will be The Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra, a nine-piece soul revue with a three-piece brass section and two powerful vocalists: Terrie Odabi and Loralee Christensen.

The band has become well loved at the Poretta and Maspalomas Soul Festivals where they have been backing many well known soul legends since 2014. They are currently nominated for five Blues Music Awards.

Proceeds from ticket sales, raffle and the silent auction will go to the NCO Sulphur Fire Fund. Proceeds from wine, beer, soda and water sales will help Hope City purchase supplies to rebuild homes lost in the 2015-17 Lake County fires.

Members of the Big Valley Hall will sell homemade desserts to help improve the hall for future benefits.

All seats will be reserved and the dance floor will be open. Table seats cost: $25, center loge: $20, side loge: $15. Like the Feb. 3 Sulphur Fire Benefit, this benefit concert is expected to sell out in advance.

Tickets can be purchased online now at: www.soperreesetheatre.com, in person at the Soper Reese Theatre box office or at The Travel Center, 1265 S. Main St, Lakeport, or by phone at: 707-263-3095.

On Sunday, June 10, from noon to 5 p.m., you can break out your tie dye for the Big Valley Rock & Reggae Fest, on the grounds of the Big Valley Hall at 1510 Big Valley Road at the corner of Finley and Lakeport. The weather should be ideal for grooving under the trees, so bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Lake County's own "Without A Net" will begin the afternoon with some well known classic rock from the 1960s.

From Cobb and Ukiah, "Rising Signs" will bring Mendocino County-style reggae shortly after 1 p.m. "Weekend at Bernie's" from Santa Rosa will end the afternoon with their soulful 1970s and 1980s classic rock and R&B.

Entrance at the gate will cost $10 for over 21, $5 for ages 13-21, and will be free for 12 and under. Members of the Big Valley Hall will be selling food and water for hall renovations. Wine, beer and soda will be sold for Hope City fire rebuilding. Local vendors will also be selling their wares.

Sponsors and wine donations are being sought for both benefits. High end art or crafts are needed for the silent auction at the Spring Sulphur Fire Benefit. Craft vendors can apply now for a booth at the Rock & Reggae Fest.
