MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – This weekend there will be two unique art making opportunities at the Middletown Art Center with local artists.

Join Sage Abella for “Heart Forward,” on Saturday, Jan. 20, from noon to 5 p.m. as part of the Resilience Project.

On Sunday, Jan. 21, Laura Kennedy will facilitate a sculptural assemblage workshop from 1 to 5 p.m.

During Saturday’s Painting Resilience, “Participants will explore the question of how to bring their hearts forward in the new year. They say that the heart sees what is invisible to the eye, so in this class we are going to play with what our heart is seeing. Play, heart and art are all paths to strengthening our own resilience,” explained Abella.
Resilience classes cost just $5 thanks to a grant from the California Arts Council with additional support from Adventist Health.

Resilience classes are open to children age 12 and up and adults of all ages of all levels of experience from novice to professional.

Classes take place every first through fourth weekend of the month, usually Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m., and cycle through photography, poetry/written and spoken word, painting and printmaking until May 2018.

Visit www.middletownartcenter.org/resilience to learn more or preregister. Bring a lunch or snacks, painting clothes or a smock and your creative self.
On Sunday, artist Laura Kennedy will provide guidance, materials, and tools for the Assemblage Workshop. Assemblage is the combination of objects and materials that are seemingly unrelated, into a new whole.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own personal mementos and collected, found and natural objects including remnants from the fire.

This class is open to adults and children age 12 and up. Children ages 8 to 11 may attend with a participating adult who can supervise their use of tools. Please preregister at www.MiddletownArtCenter.org/classes.

Middletown Community Gardeners initiated this assemblage workshop to personalize their garden plots and make the community garden adjacent to Calpine a more welcoming and attractive place to visit and garden in. This workshop was made possible with support from the NCO Community Garden project.

The cost is $35 for the public and free to NCO Community Gardeners. Learn more about the NCO Community Garden Project and available plots at http://www.gardensproject.org/.
