LAKEPORT, Calif. – The 1940 satire, “The Great Dictator,” starring Charlie Chaplin, screens at the Soper Reese Theatre on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 1 and 6 p.m.
Entry to the film is by donation. Assistive listening devices are now available.
“The Great Dictator” is a comedy and the first bull-blown talkie from the biggest star of the silent era, but this film is no joke.
Chaplin had lethal intent in lampooning Hitler and fascism, using the medium of film to stare evil in the face long before the rest of Hollywood even thought it was possible.
The movie is sponsored by Jim Aldrich. Rated G with run time of two hours and six minutes.
The Soper Reese Theatre is located at 275 S. Main St., Lakeport, 707-263-0577, www.soperreesetheatre.com.
