MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – This Saturday, Dec. 30, Middletown Art Center offers a full day of art and culture to the community.
The day will begin with “Printmaking Resilience – Etching II” from noon to 5 p.m., followed by MAC’s Open House from 7 to 10 p.m.
Etching II is an iteration of the traditional drypoint etching process using contemporary, affordable materials.
Nick Hay will teach the class with Sage Abella leading the drawing section during the first hour.
“We’ll use a drypoint technique to draw on a plastic plate that is thicker, and thus different, from the one used in class in November,” explained Hay. “Participants will be able to make changes and refinements to their image and run their plate through the press several times during class.”
Adults and teens ages 12 and up, whether new to artmaking or professionals, are invited to attend Resilience classes every first through fourth weekend of the month, generally on Saturday.
Classes are just $5 and continue through May 2018. Visit www.middletownartcenter.org/resilience to learn more about the Resilience Project and to pre-register for classes.
“Resilience classes cycle through photography, creative writing, painting and printmaking each weekend,” said Abella, who is one of several instructors of both painting and printmaking, and a participant in Resilience classes when not teaching. “I am so grateful for this opportunity, not only to teach, but to learn from other accomplished local artists.”
At 7 p.m., join friends and neighbors for MAC’s Open House.
They will be playing music, dancing and engaging in merriment.
This is a free event for the community to enjoy. Bring drinks or food to share if you wish.
Join the folks at MAC for events this weekend and throughout the year.
