Rock/Funk legend Sly Stone's sister, Vaetta "Vet" Stone, was seriously injured in car accident on Feb. 2.
Ms. Stone, who was recently instrumental in Sly Stone's return to performing, had to be airlifted to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek from Napa, where the accident occurred.
Initially, Ms. Stone was in the ICU unit, but her condition has stabilized and she remains hospitalized.
Vet Stone has a philanthropic connection to Lake County. Since 2001, she has made large contributions of clothing and household goods to the PSG Women's Clean & Sober Living Environment in Lucerne.
She also is a supporter of Lake County Community Radio and attended the 2003 Blues & Barbecue event in support of KPFZ.
As an original member of Sly & The Family Stone as a background vocalist, she was eventually produced by her brother in a separate, yet integral act, "Little Sister." The group placed two singles in the Top 10, "You're The One" and "Somebody's Watching You."
Sly Stone's ascent and retreat from the limelight of the music business is legendary. Spurred by the encouragement of his baby sister, Sly has recently, in chronological order, been in attendance at The Hollywood Knitting Factory when Vet's group performed, appeared at last year's Grammy Awards and on Jan. 13 performed with the Vet and Family Stone Band at B.B. King's House Of Blues in Anaheim.
As Lake County News went to press Vet Stone's doctors' prognosis is for a full recovery.
