'Anthrax War' is Second Sunday Cinema's free film for March 14

CLEARLAKE – “Anthrax War” is Second Sunday Cinema’s free film for Sunday, March 14.

The venue is the Clearlake United Methodist Church, 14521 Pearl Ave., Clearlake.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the film starting at 6 p.m.

The film is another choice suggested by important recent news.

On Feb. 19, the US Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced that their eight-year investigation into the anthrax scare of 2001 was over and that scientist Bruce Ivins acted alone. Not everyone agrees.

This well-researched and jaw-dropping 2009 documentary provides ample information to show that despite past international agreements, germ warfare is now big business for murky global corporations.

Six top scientists in the field have died under suspicious circumstances, some in ways completely out of character.

One, described by a colleague as, “a lovely man, mad as a hatter” was flying around the world on regular passenger flights carrying vials of weaponized deadly organisms to private labs. Then he met a pulp fiction end.

In South Africa, research went on for years into germs that would only attack blacks. Every time you think the information in the film can’t get any worse the facts outdo themselves.

“Downright terrifying – I was so tense I literally forgot to breathe,” said Bob Masey of TV Guide Canada.

This gripping, unforgettable film will be shown for free, as always.

Next month, for April, we plan to show an uplifting, encouraging film (“Fierce Light”) as a great change of pace.
