Heavy rains over - for now

Thursday, Dec. 21, was the Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere - the longest night and shortest day of the year - with today being the official first official day of winter.

From now until June 21, 2007, the sun will shine (unless it's obscured by clouds), just a little bit longer each day.

The NWS predicts that, for the next several days, the heavy rains have ended but a chance of light rains remain.

Temperatures through this holiday weekend for Lake County are forecast to range from lows in the mid 30s to highs in the low 50s.

Chances for light showers are predicted to taper off by Wednesday.

If you are traveling over the Sierra Nevada mountain range this weekend, expect another heavy snow on Sunday evening and carry chains.
