LAKEPORT, Calif. – The May installment of the Lake County Library’s Know Lake County series will feature Lake County’s Certified Farmer’s Markets, farm stands and the Organic Certification program, presented by county Agricultural Commissioner Steven Hajik.
The free program will be held Saturday, May 20, at the Lakeport branch of Lake County Library at 1425 N. High St. from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Lake County Department of Agriculture ensures that the Certified Farmer’s Markets comply with direct marketing regulations by inspecting growing sites, issuing Certified Producers Certificates, and investigating market complaints, all to maintain the integrity of organic food production.
Hajik has been the Lake County agricultural commissioner and sealer of weights and measures since 2002.
His job is to enforce the laws and regulations regarding the agriculture industry and weights and measures.
Before coming to Lake County he worked in Merced, Modoc, San Luis Obispo and Mendocino counties.
The Know Lake County lectures feature speakers from a wide array of organizations and disciplines, each representing some aspect of Lake County.
