LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Board of Supervisors this week will discuss rule changes for collective cannabis cultivation in rural lands and consider a staff request to consider future uses of the historic Lucerne Castle.
The board will meet beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, in the board chambers on the first floor of the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St., Lakeport.
The meeting can be watched live on Channel 8 and online at https://countyoflake.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx . Accompanying board documents, the agenda and archived board meeting videos also are available at that link.
At 9:30 a.m., the board will hold a public hearing to consider a proposed ordinance Amending Article 72 of the Lake County Code to allow the outdoor collective cultivation of medical cannabis in "RL" Rural Lands and to create a certification of compliance process for cannabis cultivation.
Current zoning allows such cultivation in agricultural lands. Rural lands are defined in the zoning ordinance as “undeveloped lands that are remote and often characterized by steep topography, fire hazards, and limited access.”
In an untimed item, the board will consider a request from staff for direction regarding the future use of the Lucerne Castle.
The building has for the past five years been under lease by Southern California-based Marymount California University.
However, two weeks ago, the university unexpectedly packed up its equipment and abandoned the facility, despite continuing to be bound by the terms of the lease.
In other untimed items, the board will get a report from Hope Rising, consider offering a resolution of support for the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument, consider an ordinance change to permit tiny homes as primary residences and discuss a resolution establishing the Western Regional Town Hall, known as “WRTH,” for the Upper Lake, Blue Lakes and Lake Pillsbury areas.
