LAKEPORT, Calif. – A traffic stop earlier this week resulted in the seizure of fentanyl, currency and an arrest for driving under the influence of narcotics.
The Lakeport Police Department said its officers conducted a traffic stop on Monday in the area of Highway 29, north of 11th Street.
During the investigation, officers developed probable cause that the driver was under the influence of drugs.
Lakeport Police Department K-9 Olin was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately 17.7 grams of fentanyl and approximately $2,100 in U.S. currency.
The driver was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and additional narcotics-related violations. The fentanyl was seized as evidence.
The federal Drug Enforcement Administration reported that two milligrams of fentanyl can be lethal depending on a person’s body size, tolerance and past usage. The amount of fentanyl seized is calculated as having totaled 8,850 potentially fatal doses of the powerful opioid.
